How to Make Your Candles Last Longer

There’s nothing better than lighting your favourite candle after a long day and making the house feel warm and cosy.

At The Gold Snap, all of our candles are hand-poured with soy wax and made to create a relaxing atmosphere in your home. But something a lot of people don’t realise is that how you care for your candle can make a huge difference in how long it lasts and how well it burns.

Here are some simple tips to help you get the most out of your candle.

The First Burn Matters the Most

The very first burn is super important.

When you light your candle for the first time, make sure you allow the melted wax to reach all the way to the edges of the jar before blowing it out. This can take a couple of hours depending on the size of the candle.

If you blow it out too early, the candle can start tunnelling, which means it burns straight down the middle and leaves wax stuck around the edges.

Doing a full melt pool on the first burn helps your candle continue to burn evenly the whole way through.

Trim Your Wick Before Each Burn

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to around 5mm.

This helps:

  • Keep the flame smaller and cleaner

  • Reduce smoke and soot

  • Stop the candle burning too fast

  • Help the fragrance throw better

If the wick gets too long, the flame can become too large and use up the wax much quicker.

A quick trim before each burn really does make a difference.

Don’t Burn Your Candle for Too Long

As nice as it is having your candle going all evening, it’s best not to burn it for more than about 3–4 hours at a time.

Burning it for too long can make the jar overly hot and affect the way the candle performs.

Once you blow it out, let the candle cool completely before lighting it again.

Keep Candles Away from Drafts

Things like fans, open windows, or air conditioning can affect how your candle burns.

Moving air can cause the flame to flicker too much, burn unevenly, or create soot around the jar.

For the best burn, keep your candle on a stable surface away from drafts.

Store Your Candles Properly

Candles should be stored somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight.

Sunlight and heat can sometimes affect the fragrance and even change the colour of soy wax over time.

Keeping them stored properly helps keep your candles looking and smelling their best.

Soy Wax Can Have Natural Imperfections

Because soy wax is a natural wax, you may sometimes notice things like:

  • Slight frosting

  • Texture changes

  • Minor colour changes

This is completely normal with soy candles and doesn’t affect the performance at all.

Every candle at The Gold Snap is hand-poured, which means every candle is unique in its own way.

Enjoy Every Burn

Candles are all about creating a calm, cosy atmosphere and helping your home feel warm and inviting.

By following these simple care tips, you’ll help your candle burn cleaner, last longer, and smell amazing right down to the very end.
